Adopting a nest from our local sea turtle rescue and conservation center, Campamento Tortuguero Ayotlcalli is a great experience for anyone that is interested in helping to preserve and protect the environment locally and worldwide. Whether you choose to adopt a nest for yourself or as a gift for that special person(s) in your life, it's a great opportunity to become a part of the local sea turtle conservation community and to show your support for the important work of our local turtle camp.
You will get to follow your nest from the time it is located through the hatching period approximately 45-60 days later.
You will receive a certificate of adoption with your name (or the name of the gift recipient) along with the patrol reports that provide details of your nest including the GPS location where it was located, the number of eggs, the expected hatch date, and other interesting information. If the nesting turtle is encountered by the patrol volunteers, you will also receive information about the turtle's size and any tracking tag information.
Later, when your nest hatches, you will receive information about the hatchlings.
Along with all these details, a personal online photo album will be created for you with pictures from the volunteers with scenes from your nest being found and relocated to the camp's incubation corral, the hatchlings emerging and being released to the sea.
Please note: the camp volunteers make every effort to take pictures of the adopted nests at each step from relocation to release but at times, weather conditions, time of day, and other factors can make it difficult to take photos.
